Something that I haven’t thought about hit me right between the eyes recently. It was one of those ‘ah ha’ moments. And I can tell you exactly where and when it happened. It was actually at our fundraiser ‘ColettaScope’. The event was over, people were collecting their artwork and heading out. Many people hung around and were talking in small groups about how wonderful the evening was, what fun they had and how great a feeling they were leaving with.
One group in particular was having a conversation that I overheard and eventually joined in to chat with them. The speaker was the older sister of one of our students. The others in the group were listening intently to what she was saying. As a big sister, she never thought it would be possible to have meaningful conversations with her and experience a typical sister to sister relationship. To her surprise, she is able to achieve that with her younger sister and she attributes that possibility, at least in part, to what her sister has learned at St. Coletta Day School.
We continue to strive to teach the whole student, academically, emotionally and socially. It appears to be working. This is only one story of this kind that I am aware of. What is your story? What have you experienced or witnessed in a student who attends our school that maybe surprised you? Expect the unexpected!
Moments like this are possible because of generous donors like you who, like our families, want the best for the students we teach. Your donation makes an immediate impact on our students AND their families. We love partnering with like-minded people such as you to help us fulfill our mission: St Coletta Day School of Milwaukee will provide an academic, social and life skills curriculum within an engaging environment to meet the needs of students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to prepare them to realize their full learning potential and continue to grow as valued and contributing citizens.
You can help us to continue the work.
Thank you for your generous support of our students, their families and their school.
